Information for Dog Owners

Dinner Plain welcomes visitors and their furry friends year-round, but please be sure you are aware of the rules in place to make sure you and your dog act responsibly in our delicate environment.

Dinner Plain is located in a sensitive environment surrounded by the Alpine National Park. There are many walks you can take your dog on inside the village, but it's important you do not take your dog into the National Park.

There are not many places you can take your dog on a snow holiday, but thankfully Dinner Plain is one that welcomes visitors and their furry friends. There's nothing like frolicking in fresh snow and we're sure your pooch will agree!

The Conditions

For dogs to visit Dinner Plain, they must be registered with your own local Council. They will also need to be kept on a leash in public at all times and you must clean up after them (so keep a doggy bag handy on each walk).

There is no off-leash area in Dinner Plain.

The walking trails within Dinner Plain village are available for dogs on leads, but dogs are strictly prohibited from leaving the village and entering the Alpine National Park.

You are able to walk your dog on lead on the cross-country trails Orteys and Fitzys Cirque (see map) following the direction of the signs. Trails are signed to show you where to go. The lower cross-country trails are for cross country skiing only, not dogs or walkers.

Want a unique experience? See the High Country on the back of your own sled dog team. Howling Husky Sled Dog Tours operate out of Dinner Plain all winter, offering a memorable tour of our spectacular landscape.

Find them daily based out of Crisp's Hut (near the playgrond).

Annual Sled Dog Sprint

Sled dog racing has a heritage at Dinner Plain going back over 25 years. The Dinner Plain Sled Dog Sprint returns each August, offering an exciting two-day. Check event listings for dates each year.
